Spirit Shrines: Houses of the Holy, to enliven the Spiritual airs
In Haiti, housing people is a family affair. Several generations often live under the same roof, or at a minimum, within a collection of homes on a property, called a lakou. The same holds true for the Spirits of that family. Spirit shrines or “Kay Lwa” have an important place in Vodou. But you do not need to be a Vodouisant to have a shrine to the spirits. Energy is energy - Love, Protection, Wealth, Happiness. It’s all the same, all over the world. The Spirit Shrines we offer are hand crafted from pine wood, decorated in the favored colors, patterns, items and styles of the individual spirits. These are samples below. Each shrine is a hand made and unique piece of art. No two are identical - just as no two spirits are the same. Don’t see a particular Spirit house you want? Commissions are our specialty and cost no more than those listed below. Please contact Manbo for a special request or desired Spirit Shrine of your own.

Legba Atibon is the first spirit called at the beginning of every ceremony. Older than time, wise from all His wanderings, Legba loves keys, mirrors and the color red. His badji is covered in skeleton keys, a visual allusion to his name “Vye Zo” - Old Bones. Blank keys, cut keys, all kinds of keys cover the surface of the shrine. Inside, the shrine is lined in mirrors, reflecting back the image of the one who opens the way before you. We’ve placed a 10 inch statue of St. Peter inside. As St. Peter is one of the avatars of Legba in Catholic hagiography, a nd it is St. Peter who holds “the keys to the kingdom of heaven”, we felt it was appropriate to place him as the visual image inside. This badji is very heavy from all the glass and metal, so it’s shipping is more than the others. Shrine includes Legba’s elekes, and instrustions on the possible uses of the shrine with Legba’s energy. LEGBA ATIBON shrine $400.00

Ezili Dantor is the hard working mother energy that cares deeply and truly for her children. Envisioned as the beautiful, but sad dark skinned woman with a child in her arms, she is often linked to the Black Madonna of many paths - Mt. Carmel, Czestachowa and to name but a few. We’ve created her shrine in the colors we use to celebrate her. A navy blue background, with bright red doors and gold emblems, reveals the Madonna of Poland inside. We’ve further embellished the shrine with Vodou symbols in white, black hobnail beads and lots of gold trim. Red roses lay at the feet of the icon inside - her halo studded with gold beads. A draw holds her elekes and prayers. A beautiful altar piece for the discerning servitor. EZILI DANTOR shrine $350.00
